Our wallet is designed as the ultimate point of access to the growing network of blockchains. As new chains go online, early adopters jump through hoops to acquire new network tokens or access early network incentives. The only way to get in and out of newly developed networks is to rely on bridges that connect different networks directly. The early bridges create a fragmented user-experience which hinders adoption and keeps people out.
Our goal, starting with the development of the self-managed wallet, has been to consolidate all popular chains in one place with native access and no bridging, just direct swaps with the most popular tokens such as ETH, USDC, and others.
We've built our wallet as a single point of access to all networks. You can import an existing wallet or create a new wallet, but access remains the same. You get to use one wallet to access the world's most popular and emerging chains in one single place.
The 100 chain milestone
Integrating TON (The Open Network) on OKX Wallet marks our 100 chain milestone. This means that today, our wallet is compatible with 100 blockchains. While at OKX, people often hear me speak about the principle 'less is more.' In this case, I'll eat my words, because less is most definitely not more.
As a result, OKX Wallet users have the freedom to participate in almost any onchain experience, including: Swaps, NFTs, Rewards, Games, and over 10,000 decentralized applications, all from the secure and familiar surroundings of our wallet. This includes Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), and the Bitcoin network including Segwit, Native, and Taproot, Solana, TON and many, many more.
As we continue to add new chains to OKX Wallet, we're also welcoming millions of new wallet holders. Since January 2024, OKX Wallet has added support for 20 new blockchains. During that same period, we also saw our total number of wallets grow by more than 5X to 53 million.
Digging a little bit deeper into the statistics, we observe that more than 90% of OKX Wallet holders transact on multiple blockchains. In terms of transaction volume for onchain swaps, the top five most popular blockchains on the wallet in 2Q 2024 were:
Chain | % of onchain swaps volume |
---|---|
Ethereum | 34% |
Solana | 24% |
Base | 10% |
BNB Chain | 9% |
Arbitrum | 6% |
In June, our wallet was ranked as the World's #1 Crypto Wallet by CertiK for Cybersecurity. Wallet holders can explore everything that 100 blockchains have to offer, and can do it with confidence and peace of mind.
Our team, and our blockchain partners, should feel immensely proud. Today's milestone underlines OKX Wallet as the leader in our industry.
Onchain, anychain. The future has arrived
In 2021, we embarked on a journey to build the world's most secure and compatible onchain crypto wallet with one guiding principle in mind: to make Web3 accessible to everyone.
At that time, we observed that new experiences were emerging not on a single blockchain, but on many. We envisioned a multi-chain future where users could interact with different blockchains without friction and from a single interface.
Less than three years on, the onchain future we anticipated is here. Unique to OKX Wallet, users can now seamlessly interact and engage with 100 different ecosystems in the following ways:
See all balances across every chain in one place.
Discover and swap over 500,000 different cryptocurrencies.
Swap and bridge anything-to-anything across networks in a single transaction.
Earn onchain yield and other rewards from 100+ blockchain protocols.
Get the best price and route when swapping tokens from 494 decentralized exchanges.
Mint and collect NFTs, Inscriptions, In-Game Assets and Collectibles from over 38 different marketplaces.
Interact with tens of thousands of decentralized applications.
Our Wallet now sits at the intersection of a network of blockchain highways, giving users secure and unprecedented access to all manner of experiences and opportunities. I'm proud to say that we'll continue to build relationships with emergent blockchain ecosystems for many years to come.
The paradox of choice
Does so much freedom of choice lead to better decisions and more satisfaction? Not always. I love psychologist Barry Schwartz' research on this topic. His TED Talk from 17 years ago raises questions that are as valid today as they were then. He argues that choice has made us not freer, but more paralyzed, not happier, but more dissatisfied.
As a technology company, not least with finance at its core, we are acutely aware of our responsibility to help our users make good decisions. As technology evolves, we work hard to provide guidance to help users do their own research. This includes educational programs, real-life meetups, and research-driven content.
We've also developed proactive monitoring tools within our products to flag and assess risks, including tools that identify honeypots, contract modification, tax risks, and historical liquidity movements across decentralized exchanges.
Embracing the spirit of decentralization
It is with great pride that we commit resources and investment to drive towards a more decentralized future for those that wish to embrace it.
Accessibility. Transparency. No intermediary. Interoperability. Free-to-use.
Today's 100 chain announcement is a testament to our position as a pioneer in our industry and we look forward to continuing to re-shape our money and financial systems, and ultimately contribute to every individual's freedom and dignity for years to come.
So what's next?
We're just weeks away from the biggest update to the OKX Wallet app in its history — there's much more on that to come.
Thank you once again to our partners, not least the TON Foundation, which joins us in celebrating this milestone today.
Most of all, thank you to our community.
