Bancor是一种为小市值代币提供流通性的系统，它内置可交易的一种或多种ERC20代币作为储备金。通过智能合约发行新代币来换取储备代币，新币的价格是通过智能合约自治定价，使其可以在无需交易所的情况下让代币间直接转换，无需第二方参与交易，或第三方来撮合交易。Bancor协议创建的代币的网络效应，为这些新货币降低了进入市场的壁垒，有效地解决了流动性问题。 新币由Bancor背书，Bancor由ETH背书，Bancor的恒定准备金率(CRR)设置并维持在20%。通过把ETH发送到Bancor持有储备金的智能合约中来发行BNT，这些发送过去的ETH就成为Bancor的背书。在这样的设定下，用户可以发送20ETH到这个智能合约中来购买到100BNT，这20ETH将会被这个智能合约强制收进储备金中。使用同样的方式，BNT可以兑换回ETH，只要用户把它发送到Bancor的智能合约中，就会获得一些ETH。Bancor协议允许用户在每次存或取储备金（ETH）时生成或销毁BNT。如果ETH的价格上升（由于以太坊生态的发展），BNT价格也会上涨（由于BNT和它的储备代币ETH维持恒定储备金比率），BNT价格的上涨也会让新币价格上涨。
